UNetbootin is a small tool that will prove to be an invaluable help when burning an image of Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE and a range of other Linux distributions to a USB drive. The program allows you to create a bootable flash drive with all popular penguin system distributions. There are two ways to use the program. The first is to select the ISO file with the disk image of the given system, and then select the device on which the bootable installer is to be created. This allows you to install the operating system of your choice without the need to burn a CD.
However, if you do not have any version of Linux downloaded yet, then there is nothing to prevent you from using the second method of preparing a bootable USB. UNetbootin is constantly updated and supports all the latest versions of popular distributions. All you need to do is select the Linux version you are interested in from the drop-down list, and the program will download it itself, and then prepare the installer on the USB drive of your choice. The program can be used to load other system utilities that must be run during the computer startup process. You can successfully make bootable flash drives with programs such as Parted Magic, SystemRescueCD, Super Grub Disk or FreeDOS.
