Today marks Facebook's 7th birthday from when Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook in his dorm room at Harvard University back in 2004. In less than a decade who would have thought that Facebook is now the largest online social network in the world with over 500 million users, an investment portfolio of more than 50 billion dollars and is now the second largest website in the world falling short behind Google. Facebook has even influenced the movie industry as Mark Zuckerberg's story on how Facebook came to be hit the big screen last year in The Social Network and was universally acclaimed by critics and audiences. The Social Network has also been nominated for 9 awards at this year’s Oscars including Best Picture. Facebook today celebrated its 7th birthday by posting "To the 1.5 Million of you who share our birthday - Happy Birthday!" on its profile page, but has also said "As we turn seven, we'd like to thank everyone who uses Facebook in unique ways around the world, ways in which we never could've imagined, and for continuing to inspire us to provide a service that makes it easy for people to connect with the things and people they care about. We also wish the more than 1.5 million people who share our birthday, February 4, a very happy birthday."
