Samsung's Galaxy family is about to get wider with yet another Android smartphone, as the manufacturer has just announced its new QWERTY candybar Galaxy Pro. The device was recently showcased during the Samsung SEA (Southeast Asia & Oceania) Forum in Singapore.
Rumored since last year, the Galaxy Pro was initially known as Galaxy Q and was supposed to be a slider Android smartphone.
The handset re-surfaced at the beginning of last month and was spotted with Sprint’s name on it, which might suggest that the Galaxy Pro will be a CDMA smartphone.
However, the Korean manufacturer is known for launching different versions of a handset depending on the market and carrier, so we might see the Galaxy Pro being launched through another carrier as well.
Information about the smartphone's specs is scarce at the moment, but the phone features a landscape display form factor and a premium look.
As you can notice from the pictures attached, the Galaxy Pro strongly resembles standard Blackberry handsets, which puts it in the business category.
Galaxy Pro has a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and a native 480 x 320 pixels resolution.
In addition to its four-row QWERTY keyboard, the smartphone is expected to be delivered with the latest TouchWiz UI, optical trackpad, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, as well as proximity sensor for auto turn-off.
The smartphone is expected to be powered by a single 800 GHz processor and runs on Android 2.2. It also features an average 3.0-megapixels main camera, which lacks a LED flash.
In terms of connectivity, the smartphone is HSDPA-enabled and features Wi-Fi, as well as Samsung Hub Premium.
More information about Samsung Galaxy Pro is expected to be revealed at the 2011 International CTIA Wireless event held in Orlando, Florida between March 22 and 24.
As a side note, the phone has just been confirmed by Three UK, which will be the first operator to launch the handset in the UK.
