If you picked up Crimson Desert online and have an Intel Arc graphics cards but can’t launch the game because of the “Graphics device is currently not supported,” you are going to be extremely disappointed to find out that things are not going to go your way, and you might want to consider refunding the game. This is not a small bug or something that can be fixed with a quick setting change, it's the complete neglect of Intel graphcis.

Takeaways:

  1. Fix: Can’t play Crimson Desert with Intel ARC graphics card
  2. Anyway to play Crimson Dessert with Intel graphics?

Why Intel Arc GPUs Are Not Supported

According to the official Crimson Desert website and all the in game notifications, Intel Arc GPUs are not supported by Crimson Desert at this point in time. This means the game will block any and all attempts to play it with an Intel GPU. Crimson Desert only supports only selected NVIDIA and AMD GPUs. Intel Arc cards, including newest models currently on the market, are not included in the supported hardware list. This is why you are seeing the error immediately on launch instead of poor performance or crashes later on.

Crimson desert intel arc workaround

While Intel Arc graphics cards are still improving in terms of driver stability and compatibility with new releases. Some developers choose not to support them because of the additional testing and cost required. Personally I think this is just lazy, cost saving stuff but as usual companies have put a spin on it to make it sound like it's too hard or too much effort…. There are also plenty of comments that state new game engines and rendering pipelines require specific optimizations that Intel drivers do not yet fully support.. Which gives developers another excuse to leave Arc out at launch. Mind you as much as this annoys me, they haven't been hiding this fact or anything. It's been publically available info for a long time. People just haven't been paying attention...

Solutions to Play Crimson Desert with Intel ARC Graphics Card?

At this point in time there is essentially nothing you can do to get around this issue. You’re pretty much going to have to wait until the developers decide to add Intel ARC GPU support. Or until the modding community puts something together that will let you play Crimson Desert with ARC GPUS.

You can try updating your drivers from Intel or forcing different DirectX launch options, but realistically this is not going to bypass the restriction since the game seems to be hard block unsupported GPUs. Since it's a hard block my best guess is that modders will find a way to remove the code that is blocking Intel cards, allow them to attempt to play the game. Though performance without proper drivers is more than likely going to be pretty bad.

So, in the meantime you might as well get a refund for the game and hope to pick it up at a later date with a discount, when/if it gets some kind of driver support.

How Long Will it Be Before Crimson Desert Gets Intel Arc Support?

If I were you, I wouldn’t be holding my breath for the developers to release drivers for Intel ARC graphics cards any time soon. Since the game only just released and is getting fairly average reviews on Steam and elsewhere, especially for the horrific in game controls, they have a lot of other stuff they need to focus on first. Fixing gameplay issues and stabilizing the experience for supported GPUs that 99% of users have, will likely take priority.

My guess is that it will be the modding community that comes to the rescue for Intel ARC GPU owners. So keep an eye on sites like Nexus Mods for any potential workarounds that pop up, as well as any Crimson Desert and Intel Arc Reddit communities. These will be the best locations to keep tabs on what is going on with it all.
