How Does YouTube Detect AI Content?
Creators are still expected to manually disclose AI-generated material, especially when the content is photorealistic or meaningfully altered. At the end of the day, though, it's an honesty system that next to nobody uses... However, YouTube is also adding some automated detection systems that will help identify AI-generated content even when creators fail to label it themselves. Personally, I think these channels should be banned for failing to comply...
- Some videos will always carry permanent AI labels.
- This includes videos created with YouTube’s own AI tools such as Veo or Dream Screen, along with files containing verified metadata that proves they were generated artificially.

YouTube also confirmed these labels will not affect recommendations or monetisation. AI videos can still appear in search results, suggested feeds, and autoplay chains exactly like any other content. They are selling AI Slop, so there's no way they would ever ban it entirely. They are playing both sides of the market.
Why the Current System Still Falls Short
It's nice to see something getting done, but it's still pretty useless because by the time viewers see the AI label, they have already clicked the video and wasted their time... So this doesn't really do much. The biggest missing feature is simple:
YouTube should display AI labels on video thumbnails and/or Titles so that they are visible everywhere, search results, recommendations, and home feeds.
This would let people avoid AI-generated videos before clicking them.
How to Avoid AI Videos on YouTube
This feature is still rolling out, but you can avoid AI Videos by looking for the new AI label.
- On long videos, look below the player for AI disclosure text. On Shorts, check for overlays directly on screen.
- Not every AI video will be labelled correctly yet, but the system is becoming more aggressive about tracking it.
Some niches and searches are already riddled with AI slop because they are cheap and easy to produce. Tutorials, celebrity gossip, finance advice, and breaking news searches and just general trash on shorts. Smaller trusted creators are usually safer than anonymous channels pumping out dozens of uploads per day. If you come across a channel that is using Click or Tap the dots and select "Do not Recommend this channel". After a while, YouTube clues in and stops showing you slop.
