If you've spent ages getting your EQ settings sounding exactly how you want them, the last thing you want is to lose everything and have to start again. Thankfully, Peace Equalizer has a built-in backup and restore system that makes it pretty easy to save everything and bring it back when you need it. This is especially handy if you're reinstalling Windows, reinstalling Peace, or just want to make sure you have a copy of your EQ settings somewhere safe in case a Windows Update sets everything back to defaults, which happens after most updates.
Takeaways:
- Is there a way to make a backup of all your Peace EQ Equalizer settings on Windows?
- What's the process for restoring a Peace EQ Equalizer backup on Windows? I restore everything, but nothing happens.

How to Back Up Your Peace EQ Settings
Since Windows Updates break things quite often, Peace EQ has made backing things up super simple.
- Open Peace Equalizer.
- Go to the Settings section.
- Open the Backup and Restore tab.
- Choose the option to create a backup.
- Follow the instructions that Peace gives you.
That's pretty much it. Peace will create a backup of your settings which you can keep somewhere safe until you need it. I'd recommend actually moving a copy somewhere outside of your main Windows drive if you're making the backup because you're about to reinstall Windows. There isn't much point in making a backup and then wiping the drive where the only copy of that backup exists.
How to Restore Your Peace EQ Settings
Restoring everything is also super straightforward.
- Open Peace Equalizer.
- Go to the Settings section.
- Open the Backup and Restore tab.
- Choose the restore option.
- Find the backup you previously created.
- Select it and follow the instructions.

Peace will then restore the settings from your backup. Once it's finished, check your presets and make sure everything is there. If you had several different EQ profiles saved, they should all be available again without you having to manually recreate them. If you don't see any changes, you might have to restart your computer first.
What If My Settings Were Restored but the EQ Doesn't Work?
If your presets have come back but changing them doesn't actually change how your audio sounds, the backup isn't the issue. It's Windows doing Windows things, as always... We have a full guide with solutions for this problem here.
Remember that Peace and Equalizer APO are doing different jobs.
Peace is the interface where you manage your EQ settings, while Equalizer APO is what actually applies those settings to your audio. So you can successfully restore your Peace configuration and still have Equalizer APO not working correctly.
- Make sure Equalizer APO is configured for the device you're actually using.
For example, if you originally created your EQ while using one pair of headphones and have since switched to a USB DAC, you may need to configure Equalizer APO for the new device.
If Peace is showing all of your presets but none of the EQ changes is actually affecting your audio, check your Equalizer APO configuration.
Restoring After a Windows Reinstall or Windows Update
If you've completely reinstalled Windows, you'll need to install Peace and Equalizer APO again before you can restore your settings. Once they're installed, open Peace and go to the Backup and Restore tab. Choose the restore option and select the backup that you created earlier.
