Artboards are one of the most useful and wildly underused features in Photoshop, allowing you to design multiple layouts within a single Photoshop document. They're especially useful for web, mobile, and multi-screen or multi-page projects. While the option to use them has been around for ages, Photoshop 2025 streamlines the process, making it easier to create and organise artboards. Since using Artboards in Photoshop is a little bit different to normal projects, this guide will show you how to use them properly.

How to Create and Manage Artboards in Photoshop 2025
As with most things in Photoshop, there are a couple of different ways you can create and use Artboards. So experiment with both of the options below. I generally find starting a project as an Artboard the easiest method, but if you want to convert something, you can also do that.
Option 1: Start with an Artboard
-
Open Photoshop and go to File > New.
-
In the New Document window, check the "Artboards" box.
-
Choose a preset size or enter custom dimensions.
-
Click Create.

This will open a new document with one default artboard.
Option 2: Convert an Existing Document to an Artboard
-
Open an existing Photoshop file.
-
In the Layers panel, select the layers you want to include.
-
Right-click and choose "Artboard from Layers."
-
Name your new artboard and click OK.

Adding More Artboards
If you need to add more pages to your project
-
Select the Artboard Tool, which is nested under the Move Tool. Shortcut: V, then click and hold to access it.
-
Use the "+" icons that appear when an artboard is selected to add new ones beside it.
-
You can also click and drag to create a new artboard of any size.

Renaming and Managing Artboards
There are a few more handy basic things to know about using artboards, which will make your life a hell of a lot easier! And I highly suggest that you get used to using these features.
Rename an Artboard
Double-click the artboard name in the Layers panel and enter a new name.
Reorder Artboards
Drag and drop artboards in the Layers panel or move them around directly on the canvas using the Artboard Tool.
Duplicate an Artboard
Right-click an artboard in the Layers panel and choose "Duplicate Artboard." You can also go to Layer > Duplicate Artboard.
Deleting Artboards
Select the Artboard Tool, click on the artboard you want to remove, and press Delete. Alternatively, right-click the artboard in the Layers panel and choose "Delete Artboard."
