How to Disable AI Mode in Chrome’s Address Bar and Search Box

If you are still using Google Chrome for some strange reason, you might be wondering how to disable the new AI mode in the Search Box. Google has introduced a new "AI Mode" in the address bar and the search box on the new tab page. This feature provides AI-generated summaries and suggestions, but most people don't want anything to do with this garbage, so follow along as we show you how to disable the feature.

What is AI Mode in Google Chrome?

AI Mode is a server-side feature for Google Search, meaning it is not entirely disabled even when local options are turned off. To avoid AI-enhanced search results entirely, consider switching to alternative search engines such as DuckDuckGo or Bing, which offer simpler, less AI-integrated experiences.

There are two main ways to do so. Just be aware that these settings may eventually be overridden by future Chrome updates if Google decides to enforce them.

How to Disable AI Mode in Chrome’s Address Bar and Search Box

Before you go ahead and start this process, make a System Restore point, as if you make a mistake, you might cause other issues for your operating system.

• Press Windows Key + R, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
• Navigate to the following path:

• Right-click on Policies, select New > Key, and name it Google.
• Right-click on the new Google key, select New > Key, and name it Chrome.
• In the right-hand pane, right-click and choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
• Name the new value AIModeSettings.
• Double-click AIModeSettings and set its value to 1.

After completing these steps, restart Chrome. The AI Mode should no longer appear in the address bar or search suggestions.

You may notice a message in Chrome’s settings that says "Your browser is managed by your organization." This simply indicates that a system policy is in effect and is not a cause for concern.

Disable AI Mode from Chrome Settings (If Available)

• Go to chrome://settings/ai.
• If the option is available, toggle off AI Mode.
