How the Shorts limitation works
Instead of completely uninstalling or modifying the app using third-party tools, YouTube finally offers a time based control under its Time Management settings that allows people to finally get rid of shorts. By setting the Shorts feed limit to zero, you essentially tell the YouTube app not to recommend Shorts content during your daily usage. However! This does not remove the Shorts tab entirely, but it does stop Shorts from appearing in your home feed and recommendations. From my experience using this feature it works almost flawlessly.
How to Disable YouTube Shorts on Android and Mobile | Turn Off Shorts
- Make sure your YouTube app is fully updated from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. This feature does not appear on older versions.
- Launch the YouTube app on your Android or iOS device.
- Tap your profile icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. This opens your account menu.
- From the menu, tap the Settings icon in the top right of the screen to enter the main settings page.
- Scroll through the settings options and tap Time Management. This section contains tools to help control your viewing habits.

- Scroll down until you see the Daily Limits section. Tap on Shorts feed limit.
- Set the Shorts feed limit to 0 minutes. Confirm the change if prompted.
- Once you set the Shorts feed limit to zero, YouTube will stop recommending Shorts in your home feed and suggestion areas. This creates a cleaner browsing experience focused on standard long form videos.

It is important to remember that the Shorts tab will still remain visible in the app. You can still access Shorts manually by opening that tab, but they should no longer appear automatically while scrolling the main feed. From my experience the odd one does slip through but it seems to block 99.9% of Shorts which is long overdue.
