Microsoft Teams is a decent bit of software designed to make meetings and other professional gatherings far more simple and intuitive. For a relatively new bit of software, it’s quite well optimised and features just about everything you’ll need to conduct a professional, efficient meeting. Up until now, the only major feature that has been missing from Microsoft Teams is noise suppression.
Noise suppression in Microsoft Teams automatically reduces unwanted background noise during conversations and meetings. Sounds such as barking dogs, household appliances, general office ambience, etc. The way it does this is by using AI to analyze audio (in real-time) to isolate human voices, then applies a filter to remove just about everything else that shouldn’t be present. There are currently three different levels of suppression available in Microsoft Teams:
Auto: Which lets Teams determine the noise reduction amount required.
Low: Removes basic, constant, recurring, things like the hum of a fan or air conditioning.
High: Removes just about all noises, except speech from audio feeds. The only catch for this feature is that you need specific hardware to take advantage of it. It will also use more system resources to process sound.
Quickly and easily turn on noise suppression in Microsoft Teams by doing the following:
- Update, then open Microsoft Teams.
- Click the Profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Click Settings.
- Click Devices in the left-hand navigation pane.
- Under Noise suppression use the drop-down menu to choose the level of suppression you want.
