If you are using ChatGPT while signed in so that you can take advantage of the Memory option but have noticed that it isn't working anymore. This article will show you a few different ways you can fix this problem to get ChatGPT's memory working again across all of the devices that you are signed in on. This is quite a common bug that is usually linked to a caching issue on one or more devices. If one device's cache is messed up, it's typically a chain reaction of issues.

- Learn how to fix ChatGPT Memory not working across multiple devices.
- What's causing ChatGPT memory not to work on all the devices I'm signed into?

How to Fix ChatGPT Memory Not Working
ChatGPT's Memory option isn't always available and can vary depending on your account, region, and the ChatGPT experience available to you. If you do not see Memory settings, the feature may not currently be available for your account, or you aren't signed in.
- Open ChatGPT.
- Click your profile picture in the bottom-left corner.
- Select Settings or Personalisation.
- Look for the Memory section.
If Memory is missing, there may be nothing to enable on your device. I've noticed that it is sometimes missing randomly depending on which browser you are using, so there might be a bug on ChatGPT's end causing this.
Clear ChatGPT Cookies and Cache (PC & Mobile)
As we mentioned above, there's a very good chance that this is entirely cache related, so clear your browser or app cache on all your devices. This process varies a little depending on the browser or device you are using.
- On Android, go to Settings > Apps.
- Find ChatGPT from the list of apps.
- Click Storage, then tap Clear Cache and App Data.

After you've done that, you will have to sign back in, but everything should be working again.
Sign Out and Sign In Again
Account synchronisation problems are quite common, so sign out and in again and make sure you are using the same account. Quite often people forget which account they are signed in with, a work account and a personal account for example.
- Click your profile picture.
- Select Log out.
- Close the browser or ChatGPT app.
- Open it again and sign in.
- Check the Memory settings and test the feature.
Make Sure Memory Is Enabled
If Memory is turned off, ChatGPT cannot use saved memories to personalise responses or save new information. Go to Profile picture > Personalisation and check the Memory settings. If an option to enable Memory is available, turn it on and then start a new regular chat.
Make Sure You Are Not Using Temporary Chat
Temporary Chat is designed for conversations that do not use or update saved Memory. Therefore, asking ChatGPT to remember something during a Temporary Chat will not save it as a long-term memory. Check the current conversation for the Temporary Chat indicator. If it is enabled, open a new regular chat and ask ChatGPT to save the information again.
Check Whether the Memory Was Actually Saved
ChatGPT may appear to acknowledge a request without the information being added to your saved memories. Checking your Memory settings can confirm whether it was stored.
- Open Profile picture > Personalisation> Memory and review the available memory management options.
- If the information is not listed, ask ChatGPT to remember it again in a regular conversation.
Keep in mind that the Memory summary is a high-level representation and may not show every detail ChatGPT can use from your conversations. AI is pretty hit and miss with remembering stuff.
Delete Old Memories
If your saved memory storage is full, ChatGPT may be unable to add new information.
- Open Settings > Personalisation> Memory and review your saved memories.
- Delete information you no longer need, then try saving the new memory again.
Depending on the version of ChatGPT available to you, the memory management interface may look different. Follow the options shown in your account rather than relying on an older interface.
