How to Fix Games Stuck at 0%, 1%, 98%, or 99% During File Verification
This is pretty straightfoward.... Just check to make sure that your Internet is actually working. If there are any connection problems the verification process will usually stop and sometimes fail to restart.
- Run an internet speed test.
- Restart your router and modem.
- Switch to a wired connection if you are using WiFi.
- Avoid heavy background downloads during verification.
- Once your connection stabilizes, restart the verification process.
Clear the Cache and Relaunch the Gaming Client
Not a lot of people know this but most store fronts like Steam have a caching system that can sometimes get messed up so clear the cache and try the verification process again. We've listed the process for Steam and Epic below but you can follow a very similar one for all the other stores you might be using.
- Open Steam.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Downloads.
- Click Clear Download Cache.

If you have been using mods or cheats there's a good chance that something has gone majorly wrong with the intallation folder so you might need to repair the entire folder/dive.
- Open Steam Settings.
- Go to Storage.
- Click the three dot menu next to your installation drive.
- Select Repair Folder.
- Wait for the process to complete, then retry verifying the game files.
Change the Download Region
This probably won't do anything significant for anyone but it's an option you can try if nothing else has worked so far.
- Open Steam Settings.
- Click Downloads.
- Select a Download region closer to your location.
- Restart Steam and retry verification.

Reinstall the Gaming Client (Steam, Epic, Ubisoft, Rockstar, etc)
If you haven't been able to fix this problem using anything else listed in this guide, you're going to need to clean install the store front that you are using. It's a pain but the only other solution at this point.
- Uninstall the launcher from your PC.
