How to Install and Use Faugus on Bazzite

If you're new to Bazzite and you've started looking at games that aren't on Steam, you've probably already tried Lutris. It's pre-installed, and it's the default recommendation for non-Steam games on Bazzite. However, in this guide, introduce you to Faugus (Faugus Launcher). It's a simpler, more modern game launcher, especially for things like Battle.net, Ubisoft Connect, EA App, and random Windows .exe installers.

How to Install and Use Faugus on Bazzite

To install Faugus, download it from the Bazaar store. Once it's installed, open it from your app menu. Faugus is really good at installing storefront launchers, which is the entire reason we are going to be using it.

How to Add a Storefront Launcher using Faugus

• Click the + button and select the dropdown. You'll see a list of storefront launchers.
• For this example, we'll use Battle.net, but the same idea applies to the other storefront launchers.
• Leave all the default options enabled. The prefix will go into the Faugus folder in your home folder unless you point it at another folder.
• Leave the Proton version as the default Proton-CachyOS, especially for Blizzard games with cinematics.
• Optionally, tick the Desktop or App Menu options so you can launch Battle.net without opening Faugus every time.
• Click OK.

Faugus will download Proton if needed, download the Battle.net installer, create the prefix, and run the setup. The first time takes a little while.

• When the Battle.net window appears, you'll see an option to close it.
• Once it's been added, you can launch Battle.net again, log in as normal, and install games as usual.

Adding a Game Manually

• If the game you're installing isn't a storefront launcher, click the + button again.
• Leave it set to Windows Game.
• Enter the game title and point the app to the Windows .exe installer.
• Click OK, then double-click the game in Faugus to run the installer.

Pointing Faugus to the Game Executable

• After the installer finishes, edit the game in Faugus.

If you leave it pointing at the installer, Faugus will just run the installer every time you launch it. So you need to point Faugus at the game's actual .exe file. The game .exe is inside the prefix under the Faugus folder.

• Edit the game's path,
• Find the Faugus folder. Open the game prefix, then:
• C drive > GOG Games > Game folder

• Find the .exe file for the game and point Faugus to it.
• Click Open, then click OK.

Now you can double-click the game in Faugus and the game will launch instead of the installer.

What Faugus Is Better at Than Lutris

So how does this compare with Lutris?

• Faugus is simpler. Sure, Lutris can do almost everything, but the interface is dense, and it has a lot of configuration, so it's kind of overwhelming for people starting out.
• Faugus is closer to "add game, pick Proton, play," and storefront launchers like Battle.net are usually much less fiddly.
• Faugus is also more actively updated right now. That matters when Proton and store clients are constantly changing.

Where Faugus isn't better than Lutris

There are some downsides to Faugus. It is not a complete Lutris replacement yet, but it's getting there slowly.

• Steam integration is not currently working on Bazzite.
• Faugus expects you to find and add the game executable yourself. Whereas Lutris has a large collection of game installation scripts.
• Faugus is not the best storefront client for Epic, GOG, or Amazon.
• Faugus can run those Windows launchers in a prefix, but if you want library sync and cloud saves, Heroic Games Launcher is still the best tool. Install Heroic from Bazaar for that job.

Choosing the Right Launcher/s

The simplest way to decide which launcher to use is:

• Use Steam for Steam games.
• Use Faugus for Battle.net, EA App, Ubisoft Connect, and random Windows .exe installers.
• Use Heroic Games Launcher for Epic, GOG, and Amazon, especially if you want library sync and cloud saves.
