What is YouTube Auto-Dubbing?
YouTube Auto-Dubbing automatically generates dubbed audio tracks in different languages for videos. While this can be helpful for accessibility, it replaces the original voice track with a crappy AI voice-over. Half the time it doesn't even replace a male voice with a male voice or a female voice with a female voice... But it gets worse! It also translates titles and descriptions, and in a lot of cases, extremely poorly!
Important: YouTube does not allow you to turn off auto-dubbing globally. You can only disable it for each individual video through the video settings. This means that without additional tools, you’d need to manually adjust these settings every time.
What is YouTube Auto Translation? (YouTube AutoDub)
Since YouTube doesn't offer a global solution, you will need to download YouTube No Translation, a browser extension that disables YouTube’s automatic translations and auto-dubbing. It works on:
- Firefox
- Chrome / Edge
- Microsoft Edge
- Safari: Requires manual build from source (no official support)
This extension makes sure that:
- Video Titles remain in the original language (applies to videos, Shorts, and notifications).
- Audio Tracks use the original version or a preferred default language.
- Descriptions are displayed in their original form.
- Subtitles appear in your chosen language, ignoring auto-generated translations if unavailable.
- YouTube Data API v3 Support can be enabled for the fastest, most reliable results using your own API key.
