Where to Find the Spell Checker in Davinci Resolve
First up! Spell Checker is only available in Davinci Resolve 21 and newer. The spell checker is integrated into all text based tools across DaVinci Resolve 21, though you will primarily be using it on the Edit page. Open the Edit page or Cut page and select a Text or Text Plus element. In the Inspector panel, you will find the text input field. The spell checker works automatically here, highlighting misspelled words as you type.
What about the Subtitles Panel?
If you are working with subtitles, go to the Subtitle track and open the Inspector. The spell checker will scan subtitle text and mark errors in real time. If you are using auto generated subtitles you will find the spell checker super handy as it will highly any words that were picked up incorrectly.
How to Use Spell Checker in DaVinci Resolve
Before you do anything else you will want to check where spell checker is and adjust the defaults. To do this go to Davinci Resolve > Preferences > User then use the new search box to search for spell checker. Or just scroll down and find it. Once you have found it there are two check boxes you can consider enabling, both are quite handy. As well as a box for ignored words.

Once you have done that you can use it in any text box like so:
- Click on your text box, title, or subtitle and begin typing. Misspelled words will typically be underlined.
- Right click on the highlighted word. A list of suggested corrections will appear. Select the correct word to replace the error instantly.
- If a word is flagged but correct, such as a name or brand, you can ignore it. Just go back into the Preferences section and paste it into the box.
How to Change Spell Checker Language in Davinci Resolve
- The spell checker depends on the selected language.
- To change it, go to Preferences, then User, and look for language or text settings. Choose the appropriate language for your project.
- For projects with multiple languages, you may need to switch language settings depending on the text you are editing. The spell checker does not always detect mixed languages automatically. Since this feature is still in beta it might be a bit hit and miss to start with.
Most of the time Black Magic are pretty quick to fix issues so stay as up to date as possible for the best results.
