Text wrapping in DaVinci Resolve is a useful feature to use when working with longer blocks of text, captions, or graphic layouts. It allows your text to automatically flow within a defined area instead of extending endlessly across the screen. This feature was added a few versions ago and is available through the Text+ title. This guide walks you through the process step by step.

What Is Text Wrapping in DaVinci Resolve
Text wrapping lets you confine text to a rectangular text box so that lines break naturally based on the box size. This is especially handy for lower thirds, callouts, or any design that needs clean text alignment without manual line breaks. Without Text Wrapping, text usually runs endlessly across the screen, which is super annoying and something no one really has a need for. Text wrapping is not enabled by default. It must be activated through the layout settings of a Text+ title.
Adding a Text+ Title to the Timeline
- Go to the Edit page in DaVinci Resolve. In the top left panel, open the Effects Library and select Titles.
- Find Text+ in the list of titles. Click and drag it onto your timeline above your video clip.

- Click the Text+ clip in the timeline to make sure it is active. Then open the Inspector panel in the top right corner.
Entering and Preparing Your Text
- In the Inspector, type or paste your text into the Text field. Use a longer paragraph so the wrapping effect is easy to see.
- Scroll down in the Inspector and open the Layout section. Change the Type setting from Point to Text Box. This creates a bounding box around your text.

How to Use Text Wrapping in DaVinci Resolve
- Still in the Layout section, enable the option labelled Wrap to Text Box. This activates proper text wrapping so the text automatically flows within the boundaries of the box.
- At this stage, the text is wrapping correctly, but you may not yet see the text box itself on screen.
Adjusting the Text Box Size
- Click the small drop-down menu in the viewer and enable Fusion Overlay. This displays the text box outline directly in the viewer.

- Click and drag the handles of the text box to make it larger or smaller. As you resize it, the text will reflow to fit the new dimensions.
Clipping Text to the Text Box
- By default, text will wrap inside the box, but may still appear above or below it if the box is too small. This means the text is wrapping but not being clipped.
Enable Clip to Text Box
- To hide any text that falls outside the box, enable Clip to Text Box in the Layout section. This ensures that only the text inside the box is visible. When clipping is enabled, hidden text will reappear automatically as you enlarge the text box.
