First Battlefield 3 details announced, teaser trailer out

With the launch of the official website for Electronic Arts and DICE's Battlefield 3, the first details have started to trickle forth on the highly-anticipated title. So far, it appears that the game is shaping up to be a successful sequel to Battlefield 2. "Beyond our signature multiplayer, we have also included a full single-player campaign and a co-op campaign," reads the new post on the blog. "As for fan favorite features, how does the return of jets, prone, and 64-player multiplayer (on PC) sound?" According to Game Informer, which has an upcoming cover story within its latest magazine, the new Frostbite 2 engine packs features like "deferred rendering, real-time radiosity, a new animation system borrowed from the EA Sports label, and an exponential leap in destructibility," while Battlefield 3 Executive Producer Patrick Bach claims that this new engine is "the best piece of technology on the market when it comes to building games." The game's story will see you play as the US Marines as you travel to such locations as Paris, Tehran, and New York as you move around "claustrophobic streets, metropolitan downtowns, and open, vehicle-friendly landscapes as you fight your way through the war of tomorrow." Battlefield 3 is set to hit store shelves release this fall for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. For those interested in securing a copy of the game, a limited edition copy of Battlefield 3 is already available for pre-order.
