High-Performance MSI X460 Notebook Is Thin and Light for Its Type

Computex 2011 is underway, so, naturally, there are many PC makers there showing off their desktops and laptops, one of which, made by MSI, might be among the thinnest and lightest of high-end notebooks. This year's Computex 2011 electronics show has definitely already seen its share of tablets, but it looks like the focus on them isn't as strong as during the earlier events of the year (CES and MWC). One reason is because Intel and AMD both have chipsets that are now showing up in new motherboards. Another reason is the fact that, with the summer holidays coming in, gaming machines might start selling better for a while. That said, a high-end notebook is exactly what Micro-Star International has created and given the name of X460. What one might notice right off the bat is that, while not the most portable of products, the laptop is, in fact, quite thin and light for its type. More specifically, it has a weight of under 2 kilograms, even though the hardware on the inside can easily handle most anything thrown at it. For those that want details, a second generation Intel Core CPU can be selected (the strongest is the quad-core i7-2630QM), while an NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M graphics (1 GB DDR3) handles the video side of things. There is also a 750 GB HDD, plus the full list of connectivity and I/O options (two USB 3.0 ports, USB 2.0, HDMI, D-Sub, Ethernet, a memory card reader, WiFi, Bluetooth and a webcam). Finally, the screen has a diagonal of 14 inches and a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels (HD support) and the optical drive can be replaced with an extra HDD, leading to scenarios where two such units are configured in RAID. What remains is to see how much the company will ask in exchange for the notebook, whenever availability comes around.
