How to Fix Upgrading from Davinci Resolve 18 to 19 Doesn’t Add Features.

If you have updated from Davinci Resolve 18.6 to 19 (beta) but didn't get access to any of the new features that everyone is raving about. This article will show you a few different things you can do to solve the problem so all the new Davinci Resolve 19 features are working.

How to Fix Upgrading from Davinci Resolve 18 to 19 Doesn’t Add Features.

Normally when you update from an older version of Davinci Resolve to the latest version, even if it is a beta version, all of the new features are active and available. However, the update from 18 or 18.6 to 19 seems to have some issues that prevent all the new features from appearing. There are a couple of things you can do to solve this problem though so follow along as we guide you through the process.

Backup Your Projects Before Doing Anything Else.

Before you do anything else in this guide make sure you have made a backup of all of your projects. This process will go through a few steps that may cause issues with projects. So don't risk it! You can copy some backups from: C:\Users\USERNAME\Videos\Resolve Project Backups. Unless you have changed the default location.

Uninstall and Reinstall Davinci Resolve 18, 18.6 then Clean Install Davinci Resolve 19.

Once you have a backup of everything, uninstall the version of Davinci Resolve you have installed, then download the new version from https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve.

Now install this version on your computer and it should be working with all of the new features. If you got the studio version make sure you enter all your details to make sure you have full access.

Still Not working?

If the above method didn't work uninstall Davinci again but this time go to the following location and delete the Blackmagic Design folder: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming. After you have removed the folder, restart your computer and install Davinci Resolve 19 from the new download. This should clear out any of the bugs that were causing the problem. Just keep in mind that it is a beta release so there are bound to be some early issues.

With the new installation complete I would open Davinci Resolve once and start a new project. If everything seems to be working copy across all of your backup files. Keep in mind that quite a lot of the new features are actually exclusive to Davinci Resolve Studio so that might be your problem as well. But at least the free version gets a 3-4x speed and performance boost over 18.
