If you've been using the new AI Audio Assistant in DaVinci Resolve 20, you’ve probably seen how powerful it can be for automating your mix. But there’s a common problem a lot of people have when using it, which causes audio to fade a little too early or be cut off abruptly. There are also a few issues with levelling and fading as well, thankfully, these issues can all be fixed.

Takeaways:
- How do you fix Davinci Resolve Audio Assistant fading and cutting audio too early?
- How do you manually adjust audio in Davinci Resolve after using Audio Assistant?

How to Stop Audio Assistant From Cutting Off or Fading Out Early in Davinci Resolve
DaVinci Resolve 20 introduced a ton of amazing new and powerful features, but my absolute favourite new feature at the moment is called AI Audio Assistant, which makes audio post-production dramatically faster and smarter. Audio Assistant can automatically organise, process, and mix your timeline’s audio with just one click. It was a little hit and mean on release, but those issues have been addressed in Beta 4 and the final release of Davinci 20. So download the latest update, and this problem will go away. Keep in mind the feature is still fairly new, so you might have a few little mishaps here and there, but it has drastically improved since the original beta of Davinci Resolve 20.
Note: I still find it good practice to make a new timeline and do all of this on a new timeline, just in case it decides to do something random.
How to update:
-
Go to the Blackmagic Design Support page
-
Download DaVinci Resolve 20 Beta 4
-
Install it over your existing version
-
Open your project and rerun Audio Assistant
Rerun Audio Assistant after updating
If you used Audio Assistant in a project before updating, you’ll need to rerun it to apply the fix.
Steps:
-
Duplicate your timeline to preserve the original
-
Go to Timeline > AI Tools > Audio Assistant
-
Choose your delivery format (YouTube, Netflix, etc.)
-
Click Auto Mix and let it reprocess your audio
This will regenerate the mix using the fixed version of the assistant.
What you should notice
-
Music and ambience no longer fade out early
-
Dialogue levels are more consistent
- Auto-ducking and EQ behave as expected
-
Tracks don’t cut off abruptly
Review your mix manually
The assistant is still in beta, and even with the fix, it’s a good idea to give your mix a final pass. Specifically:
-
Review clip transitions
-
Adjust auto-ducking if needed
-
Fine-tune voice isolation and EQ
