ZiiLABS Completes 10-Inch Quad-Core Tablet

With all the tablets running around the market selling or waiting to start on their way, ZiiLABS decided to have its own inventions join in on the fun, one of them being a 10-inch model powered by a dual-core or quad-core processor. It appears the ZiiLABS chose to implement a measure of customizability when it developed the 10-inch Android 3.x tablet. Unlike other companies, the outfit doesn't plan on actually entering the race personally, meaning that its project is intended for OEMs instead (tablet has a modular motherboard design). One will probably immediately notice that, rather than a Tegra 2 SoC, the outfit selected the Jaguar platform, with both dual-core and quad-core options available. Seeing as how the clock speed of the Jaguar's processors is 1.5 GHz, this makes the top possible speed 6 GHz. That said, the 10-inch model (a 7-inches also exists) has an LCD with a native resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels. Up to 64 GB of storage can be put in, along with 2 GB of DDR2 or DDR3 RAM (random access memory). Furthermore, an SDHC card slot lets on add extra storage, while a 5 megapixel webcam on the back records high-quality media (the front-facing HD webcam is used for videoconferencing and the like). Other specifications include Bluetooth 2.1, USB 2.0, an accelerometer, GPS, stereo speakers, dual microphones and broadband (3G, 4G, maybe even WiMAX). "As consumer demand for a wide-range of smarter, more connected tablets increases, so do the OEMs' needs to innovate while also shrinking their time-to-market" said Hock Leow, president of ZiiLABS. "The JAGUAR platform combines our deep understanding and experience working on consumer devices and tablets with our ZMS processors, reference platforms, software and certification know-how to deliver a state-of-the-art platform that minimizes the complexities of introducing next-generation tablets." Interested OEMs will probably be glad to learn that ZiiLABS is already sending out sample shipments of the tablet.
