Having a Microsoft account is almost an essential part of using Windows 11, as it allows you to take advantage of a few extra features included in the operating system. As well as all the Windows 11 functionality you get by having a Microsoft account, it’s also a gateway to a lot of other Microsoft services such as OneDrive, Outlook, Microsoft Office, Xbox Live, Xbox Game Pass, and a ton of others.

So if it has been a while since you created your Microsoft Account or you have moved recently, you may wish to change or update your country/regional information. Depending on your circumstance and location, this may also give you a few tiny advantages. For example, getting Windows updates and feature changes ahead of people in other regions, etc.

Before you get too excited, however, there are a few limitations of what changing your country or regional data can do. Most importantly it won’t allow you to take advantage of services in other countries that are cheaper than your home country. Microsoft will block you when you get to the payment section as your payment method has to match the country/location you are located.
