Thankfully it is possible to change the font size that Firefox uses by default when Picture in Picture mode is active, which allows you to scale things down to a more usable size for your particular device. In order to change the font size of subtitles (captions) in Firefox PIP mode, you’ll need to do the following.

Media.videocontrols.picture-in-picture.display-text-tracks.size

If you access this location and notice that you don’t have the option to change from Small, Medium or Large, you are using the wrong version of Firefox and will need to wait until the feature is rolled out to the stable release. If at any stage you wish to revert back to the default settings, just go back to the exact same location and set it back to Medium.
