In addition to new devices running under Google's Android operating system, such as the Galaxy S II or the Tab 10.1, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics came to the Mobile World Congress with other handsets too, such as the Samsung S8530 Wave II, powered by bada, the company's own mobile platform.
With a fast 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, PowerVR SGX540 GPU, Hummingbird chipset inside and a large 3.7 inches touchscreen display that boasts a 480 x 800 pixels resolution, the new device can easily prove a great competitor for high-end smartphones available on the market today.
When launching the bada OS, Samsung said that it would focus on providing users both with appealing hardware and with the needed software, and the Wave II shows that the company already made significant progress in this direction.
The specs that Wave II boasts include HSDPA 3.6 Mbps, HSUPA, 2 Mbps connectivity, along with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP capabilities, a microUSB v2.0 port, or Stereo FM radio with RDS, FM recording.
At the same time, the smartphone packs a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with auto focus, LED flash and HD video recording capabilities (features like Geo-tagging, face, smile and blink detection, image stablilization, touch focus are also present into the mix).
The mobile phone sports 2 GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space (a 2GB card included in the package).
The Samsung Wave II is powered by a Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery that can deliver up to 13 hours (2G) / up to 6 hours (3G) of talk time, or up to up to 600 hours (2G) / up to 500 hours (3G) of standby time.
The phone runs under bada OS 1.2, with Samsung's TouchWiz UI 3.0 and offers support for various mobile services, as well as for applications and for playing content on the go.
Samsung Wave II measures 123.9 x 59.8 x 11.8 mm and weighs in at 135 grams. It includes proximity sensor, Accelerometer, multitouch capabilities, Smart unlock, Handwriting recognition, and other features.
