Officially set to arrive on shelves in the UK on May 1st, the new high-end Samsung Galaxy S II is already listed as available via some of the company's online retailers, including The Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U. Both companies list the new device as available on monthly plans from Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange, and O2, but users can also choose to purchase the new handset SIM-free via The Carphone Warehouse. Free of contract, the handset would be available for £494.95 (US$824), while the contract price was set for free upfront upon the signing of agreements on £35 per month plans. The mobile phone is set to become available for purchase through various wireless carriers in the country as well, but that won't happen until Sunday is here. Those users interested in grabbing a unit before the handset goes on sale through all channels on May 1st should head over to one of the aforementioned retailers to make a purchase. The Samsung Galaxy S II is the latest flagship smartphone from the South Korean mobile phone maker. Initially set to arrive on shelves sometime in late March or early April, the phone was pushed back a few weeks, as Samsung bumped the application processor inside it from 1GHz to 1.2GHz. In addition to the fast dual-core CPU, the mobile phone also comes with a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display, as well as with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for 1080p HD video recording. At the same time, the new mobile phone arrives on shelves with 16GB of internal memory, along with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, support for 3G networks, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and built-in GPS receiver. The handset runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, and offers support for Google Mobile Services, as well as for various applications available for download via the Android Market.
